Oral Cancer Screening at Solara Dental Studio

Oral Cancer Screening

Oral Cancer Screening

Early detection saves lives — and at Solara Dental Studio, we use advanced light-based technology to identify signs of oral cancer before they become visible to the naked eye. Our screening systems are quick, painless, and designed to protect your long-term health.

Why Oral Cancer Screening Matters

  • Oral cancer affects more than 35,000 people every year in the United States.

  • Most cases are diagnosed too late, when treatment is more invasive and survival rates drop.

  • When detected early, the 5-year survival rate increases by 80–90%.

  • Screening is especially important for adults over 40, tobacco users, heavy drinkers, and patients with HPV.

What We Screen For

We screen for suspicious oral lesions, precancerous cell changes, and tissue abnormalities that are not visible during a standard exam. This includes changes in color, texture, or tissue patterns that may appear on the lips, tongue, cheeks, throat, or the floor and roof of the mouth.

Early Symptoms of Oral Cancer You Shouldn’t Ignore

Persistent Mouth Sores

Sores or ulcers that don’t heal within two weeks can be an early sign of abnormal tissue changes and should be evaluated by a dentist.

Unexplained Pain or Numbness

Unexplained Pain or Numbness

Discomfort, numbness, or a burning sensation in the lips, mouth, tongue, or throat may indicate early-stage oral cancer even if no visible lesion is present.

Changes in Color or Texture

Changes in Color or Texture

Red, white, or dark patches, as well as rough or thickened areas inside the mouth, may signal precancerous cell activity.

Difficulty Swallowing or Speaking

Difficulty Swallowing or Speaking

A feeling of obstruction, tightness, or change in voice can be linked to tumors developing in the oral or throat region.

Lumps or Swelling

People More Likely to Develop Oral Cancer

Tobacco Users

Tobacco Users

People who smoke cigarettes, cigars, vape, or use chewing tobacco have a significantly higher risk of developing oral cancer due to constant exposure to carcinogens.

Frequent Alcohol Consumers

Frequent Alcohol Consumers

Heavy or long-term alcohol use weakens oral tissue and increases the chances of abnormal cell changes inside the mouth and throat.

Adults Over 40

Adults Over 40

The risk of oral cancer increases with age, especially in patients who combine alcohol and tobacco use, even if they show no visible symptoms.

Human Papillomavirus

People With HPV (Human Papillomavirus)

Certain strains of HPV — especially HPV-16 — have been linked to a growing number of oral and throat cancer cases in younger adults who do not smoke.

Individuals With Family History of Cancer

Individuals With Family History of Cancer

Genetic predisposition plays a role. If immediate family members have had oral cancer or other forms of cancer, screening becomes even more important.
